Course Director Foundations in Pluralistic Psychotherapy Practice

Dan graduated from Birmingham University with a BSocS in Public Policy. His postgraduate career was in public relations, working with a range of international health focused NGOs including the World Health Organization and the World Hepatitis Alliance as well as commercial companies. During his time in PR, Dan worked at some of the UK’s leading PR agencies including Edelman and Ketchum. His last agency role was as Head of the Healthcare Department and Co-Chair of the Global Aid practice at Fleishman Hillard UK. In 2015 he made the decision to go freelance to focus more on his counselling and teaching.

Dan obtained his Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Amersham and Wycombe College in 2014.  He then undertook a post-graduate Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Counselling, qualifying in 2017.  He obtained COSRT Accreditation in 2021 and his supervisor qualification from The Awareness Centre in 2023.

The principles of Pluralism immediately appealed to Dan when they began to gain momentum in the 2010s. As a humanistic therapist he felt instinctively aligned to the idea of providing tailored therapy for each individual client. Dan’s foundational training is Person Centred Therapy, but he regularly and comfortably works with Psychodynamic, CBT and Existentialist concepts.

Dan runs a private practice from his home in Hertfordshire where he sees a wide range of clients. He works with both general therapy enquiries and psychosexual clients including intimate partner therapy. He is usually accompanied by his co-therapist Tilly (an eight-year-old Cavachon). Dan also supports several supervisees including CICS trainees and graduates. Before starting his own practice, Dan worked at SPECTRUM CRI drug and alcohol services in St Albans, the Local Counselling Centre (LCC) in Letchworth and St Alban Hospital Sexual Health Clinic (through LCC).

Dan joined the CICS teaching team in 2022. Before this, he taught the Counselling Diploma at Barnet College, North London.
