The CICS Foundations in Pluralistic Psychotherapy Practice is Year 1 of our Qualification Pathway 1. This course can be accessed in person or via Zoom, in line with our Course Access Policy.

It provides a foundation level training in therapeutic practice for applicants wanting to qualify as a sex and relationship therapist but who do not yet have a counselling qualification.

The Foundation course is equivalent to 300 Total Qualifying Hours, with 120 live Guided Learning Hours. Successful completion of the course results in the award of our COSRT Level 5 Foundation Certificate in Counselling Skills and Practice and leads to access to Years 2 and 3 of Qualification Pathway 1, our Diploma in Clinical Sexology and Relationship Therapy programme.

The therapeutic theoretical orientation of the course is “pluralism”. Pluralism is an emerging way of thinking about therapy, based on the fundamental assumption that no one therapeutic approach has the monopoly on understanding the causes of distress or on the most helpful therapeutic responses. Instead, it suggests that different clients are likely to want, and benefit from, different things in therapy.  We teach a range of contemporary approaches to therapy, to best serve each unique client, whilst maintaining the centrality of the client, relational working and the therapeutic alliance to all counselling and psychotherapy work.
